Waverley: Birth of a Legend

Birth of a Legend – An extended edition incorporating Waverley’s Heritage Rebuild and 2020 Boiler Refit.

This remarkable collection of photographs shows the development of paddle steamer Waverley from her build, including her Heritage Rebuild 2000-2003, as well as her Boiler Refit in 2020.

This photographic record of her build was originally published in 1987 to mark the 40th Anniversary of Waverley’s maiden voyage. The original negatives of Waverley’s build have been in the possession of Mr Eric Armstrong, a former member of the ship’s crew.

In 2022, Waverley celebrates 75 years since her maiden voyage and this updated edition has been extended to include the Heritage Rebuild which was undertaken in two phases (2000 and 2003), as well as her Boiler Refit in 2020.

All proceeds with the sales of this publication go directly towards Waverley’s preservation.
