The Burrell Collection is a jewel set in the heart of Glasgow’s beloved Pollok Country Park, a green oasis on the southside of the city. Opened in 1983, this Category A-listed museum building offers a fabulous home for the vast collection of art and antiquities donated to Glasgow in 1944 by one of its most successful sons, Sir William Burrell, and his wife, Constance Lady Burrell. Their incredibly generous gift, made with great foresight and altruism, has allowed generations of Glaswegians and visitors alike to enjoy a collection that was painstakingly established over many decades, thanks to the huge fortune that Sir William amassed from his shipping business.

Within these pages is a selection of highlights from the Collection: ancient ceramics, arms and armour, stained glass, tapestries, alabasters, paintings, carpets and much, much more. No visit to Glasgow is complete without seeing these treasures for yourself. Researched and written by the Collection’s curators, the book showcases the breadth and depth of the Burrell Collection for a new generation of visitors, in celebration of its redisplay and renaissance.
