This Tote-bag is inspired by the Burrell Collection's Multi-coloured silk embroidered Suzani on unbleached loosely woven cotton cloth. It is designed with a wide border and a large centre field.
The border holds a meandering vegetal scroll baring large palmettes, predominantly deep pink and orange in colour, and smaller flowers and leaves in a variety of colours, including blue irises. The central field is divided into diamond shaped lozenges by a blue trellis. At each cross-point of the trellis there is an eight-petal flower in pink. Each lozenge holds a delicate composition of two flowers, one blue and one orange and pink, and several stems with leaves.
The silk thread colours include two shades of blue, two shades of pink, two shades of ivory, a green-faded into-blue colour and orange.
Gifted by Sir William and Lady Constance Burrell to the City of Glasgow, 1944.
