Originally created in oils on a 108 × 90 cm linen canvas, the work reimagines Muir’s much-loved Square Gogh (2018) through the powerful lens of Howson’s bold figurative style. Van Gogh appears with renewed emotional intensity, dressed in an Adidas tracksuit and set against a familiar twilight landscape – a perfect blend of Muir’s contemporary cultural edge and Howson’s unmistakable visual strength. The collaboration emerged through a series of chance encounters while both artists were walking their dogs in Glasgow’s West End. These conversations grew into mutual admiration and ultimately twelve weeks of shared and independent studio work.
