Perhaps best known for his extensive work on industrial archaeology, John Hume captures Glasgow’s tramway history through his own lens. Growing up on Clarkston Road, where three tram services ran past his window, he developed a lifelong fascination with the city’s transport.
From the mid-1950s, armed first with a Brownie Box Camera and later a 35mm camera, Hume travelled the tram network by bike and tram, documenting the vehicles and routes as they rapidly disappeared. His photographs provide a unique, personal record of a system that vanished just 18 months later with the Last Tram Procession.
This beautifully presented book offers rare insights into Glasgow’s lost tramways, making it a must-have for transport enthusiasts, local historians, and anyone with a love for the city’s heritage.
